When Can You Claim Eurowings Compensation?

According to the EU regulation, you can claim compensation with airline if:

  • Your flight was delayed by more than three hours at the final destination
  • Your flight was canceled,͏ and you were not informed at least 14 days before the scheduled departure
  • You are denied boarding due to overbooking or other reasons not related to your personal circumstances

Two factors determine the compensation you receive: the flight distance and the duration of the delay or cancellation. The table below shows the compensation amounts in euros:͏

Distance Delay of 3-4 hours Delay of more than 4 hours or cancellation Denied boarding
Up to 1,500km 250 250 250
Between 1,500 and 3,500 km 400 400 400
More than 3,500 km 300 600 600

When your Eurowings flight is delayed or cancelled with little notice or overbooked as per policy, you're entitled to compensation. However, you may not get compensation in the following situations:

  • If the airline has evidence to prove that the delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances out of their control, such as severe weather, natural disasters, airport closures or air traffic control strikes, particularly common in southern Europe.
  • You are informed of the cancellation sometime in the interval between 14 and 7 days before the scheduled flight, and you are offered an alternative early departure flight that isn't more than 2 hours before your original and a late enough return not to arrive any less than 4 hours after it.
  • You are informed of the cancellation less than a week before the flight and are handed an alternative flight that doesn't leave until 1 hour before but lands no later than 2 hours after your original.
  • You are not entitled to compensation if you choose to give up your seats in exchange for benefits agreed upon with the airline.

What Are My Rights During a Flight Delay with Eurowings?

When facing a flight delay with Eurowings, it's natural to feel frustrated while waiting at the airport, uncertain about your next boarding time. Although this is an extremely common problem for many travelers every year, with a bit of knowledge, you don't have to endure Eurowings delay without receiving anything in return.

If a Eurowings flight is delayed by over 3 hours, no extraordinary circumstances apply; you are entitled to claim up to € 600 in flight delay compensation. You also have the right to care and assistance from the airline after a two-hour or more delay in your Eurowings flight, whatever its cause may be. This includes:

  • Free meals and refreshments, depending on the waiting time and the time of day
  • Free access to phone calls, emails, or faxes
  • Free hotel accommodation and transportation if the delay requires an overnight stay or a change of airport

You shouldn't accept any vouchers or offers from Eurowings that waive your right to compensation. Furthermore, be sure to hold on to both your boarding pass and other documents connected with the trip. They may be necessary later to substantiate a claim.

What Are My Rights If My Eurowings Flight Is Canceled?

No one likes his flights getting cancelled, but it happens. If you have booked a Eurowings flight that gets called off, then there may be disruptions and inconvenience to your travel plans. On the other hand, you can also benefit from the EU's regulations on this subject and from Eurowings’ cancellation policy.

If Eurowings' management cancels recommended flights, then customers are entitled by law to the following:

  • A full refund of your ticket price within seven days or at your earliest convenience.
  • Arrangements for a return flight to your original departure point.
  • Re-route to your intended destination once available seats arise or at a suitable date based on availability.

There may also be circumstances under which you are entitled to up to €600 per passenger if the cancellation is caused by reasons other than extraordinary ones. These stipulations provide travellers with refuge and help when Eurowings cancels a flight.

What Are My Rights If I Am Denied Boarding on a Eurowings Flight?

Under some circumstances, you may be denied boarding on a Eurowings flight. When this happens, like many other airlines, Eurowings overbook tickets, and there are not enough seats for all passengers. Therefore, if every single passenger shows up, some will unfortunately not be able to board. Those refused boarding have certain rights if they find themselves in this unfortunate situation:

  • Select between a refund, re-routing or alternative flight.
  • Receive care (free food, drinks, and accommodation if needed).
  • Claim compensation of up to €600 based on the flight distance.

Which Other Expenses Can You Claim to Eurowings?

When filing Eurowings compensation claim, there are many expenses you can claim that result from their poor service:

  • Hotels: Expenses for accommodations are either lost at your destination or paid during the waiting period.
  • Taxis: Costs for transportation to and from the airport.
  • Meals: Expenses for food and drink, whether in the airports or outside them, due to delays or cancellations.
  • Missed Tours: Any pre-arranged tours you could not take because a flight was disrupted may be refunded now.
  • Days of Holiday: Compensation for the days of your vacation affected by flight issues.

  • Car Rental:Car Rental: Expenses incurred for car rentals affected by flight delays or cancellations.

Documents Required to Submit a Eurowings Compensation Claim

To ensure a smooth Eurowings compensation claim process, gather these essential documents:

  • Booking Confirmation: This validates your purchase and flight details. If misplaced, request a copy from Eurowings.
  • Proof of Identity: Provide an ID card, passport, or residence card for identity verification during claim initiation and airport procedures.
  • Boarding Pass or Correspondence: Retain your boarding pass as evidence of scheduled travel. When there is a delay, cancellation or overbooking, any letter or email from Eurowings admitting responsibility will generally act as evidence.
  • Expense Proof: You need originals of both receipts and invoices documenting any extra costs incurred as a consequence of flight irregularities–such as hotel stays, meals eaten off-premises, and substitute tickets. These will be needed in order to claim Eurowings compensation.

By having these documents in order, you can support your claim effectively and ensure a seamless process towards receiving rightful compensation from Eurowings for any inconveniences faced during your travel.
