Is EasyJet a Reliable Airline?

EasyJet is overall a reliable airline. Naturally, delays and cancellations can happen. No airline guarantees 0% cancellations or delays, so you should prepare for the worst.

According to a year old report, EasyJet is one of the most booked airlines during the summer holiday season. A total of 90,988 flights were booked in the first quarter of 2021 and out of these, 44.144, or 47.8%, were not on time.

The average delay stood at 29 minutes, which is considerable.

Things seem to have improved since then, but the airline is still having delayed flights.

According to the latest numbers, 74.34% of flights departed on time, which means that the remaining were either delayed or cancelled.

Our research shows that most EasyJet Airlines complaints are related to delays and not cancellation as less than 2% of EasyJet flights are delayed. Most people who fill in the EasyJet compensation claim form for cancelled flights do so for international flights as even fewer domestic flights are cancelled.

If your flight has been delayed or canceled, you might be entitled to compensation.

EasyJet Flight Delay Compensation Conditions

Unfortunately, not everyone may be eligible to get compensated as there are certain requirements that you must meet to qualify:

  • There must be a significant delay, typically lasting at least three hours. Shorter delays usually do not qualify for compensation. This applies to both international and domestic flights.
  • The airline should be responsible for the delay, i.e.: should be due to technical issues or crew problems. Delays due to exceptional circumstances such as bad weather exempt EasyJet from having to compensate passengers.
  • EasyJet must not have sent a notification to passengers about the upcoming cancellation at least 2 weeks before the departure date.
  • Your booking must be valid, and you must have all the required documents, including any communication you had with the airline in relation to the delay and your boarding pass.
  • The airline may decline to compensate the passenger if it can prove that the delay was due to the passenger's behavior.

If this sounds complicated, don't worry! Use Click2Refund's automatic calculator to quickly determine your eligibility for EasyJet flight delay compensation. The calculator is user-friendly and requires only a few minutes to complete.

It is highly reliable and can quickly tell if your flight is eligible for compensation. With this tool, you will not have to worry about getting in touch with EasyJet customer support to get your answer.

EasyJet Flight Compensation Rules

Since the UK is no longer a part of the European Union (EU), there is confusion regarding compensation rules for these flights.

Let’s clarify that despite the UK not being a part of the EU, the same laws apply to EasyJet flights. The Air Passengers Rights Regulation 2004 governs the case. Also called EC 261/2004 and commonly known as UK-261 in the UK, this Act is known for being a comprehensive airline regulation system, it governs all EasyJet flights and is designed to protect passengers.

This is what the law says about compensation:

Compensation of up to €600 if your delayed or cancelled flight qualifies

You will not get compensation if …

  • Delays are caused by circumstances that the airline cannot control, such as natural disasters, severe weather, air traffic issues, security threats, or medical emergencies. In such situations, the airline is not required to pay any compensation.
  • The airline informed you of the cancellation at least 2 weeks or 14 days before the date of departure. This is because it is considered enough time to book another flight. Missing the airline’s email or notification is not a reason to file a compensation claim.
  • If the case has been time barred as there is a certain time limit from the incident to file a claim. Claims submitted after this period may be declined by the airline.

Generally, minor delays do not qualify. A delay must be major (at least 3 hours) for it to qualify.

In addition, delays resulting in missed connections on separate tickets may not always be eligible, as the connecting flight isn’t the airline’s responsibility. The airline, however, is responsible if it’s on the same ticket.

The airline may deny compensation if the delay is linked to the passenger's behavior, i.e.: violation of policies, or actions that are in the passenger's control.

Lastly, events that are considered “force majeure”, such as political instability, war, terrorism, and other uncontrollable events, may also exempt the company.

In simple words, you will not get compensation if it is not the airline’s fault.

What about EasyJet flight cancellation?

The law is very clear about EasyJet flight cancellation. It entitles passengers to compensation. Here’s a summary of what the law states:͏

  • If your flight is cancelled, the airline must offer you a refund or an alternate flight. You have the right to choose between the two options. The airline cannot force you to choose one.
  • This rule applies when the cancellation occurs at least 2 weeks or 14 days before the departure date. If the cancellation happens less than 2 weeks or 14 days before the flight, you may be eligible for compensation of up to €600 per person.

EasyJet may not owe compensation if they can find an alternative option that gets you to your destination in less than 2 hours. This point is of huge value because the law states that it is more important to ‘reach’ the destination on time than the airline.

However, you may still have some other ways to claim compensation. Get in touch with the Click2Refund team to discuss your specific situation and know more about your options.

EasyJet Delay Rules

Once again, the rules are very clear. You can get compensation if you meet all these conditions:

  • The light was delayed for over three hours.
  • The delay was not due to natural causes, i.e.: It was the airline’s fault.
  • The delay was not due to your mistakes.

However, the amount you can claim will vary based on a number of factors, particularly the distance:

  • For flights spanning less than 1,500 kilometers, you are eligible to claim up to €250 (£220) in EasyJet delay compensation.
  • For flights within the EU zone spanning over 1,500 kilometers, you are eligible to claim up to €400 (£350) in EasyJet delay compensation.
  • If your flight falls between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometers, you can claim up to €400 (£350).
  • For flights outside the EU zone covering more than 3,500 kilometers, you can claim up to €300 (£260) if delayed for 3 hours.
  • For flights outside the EU zone covering more than 3,500 kilometers, you can claim up to €600 (£520) if delayed for at least 4 hours.

In addition to this, passengers have some other rights as well, including the right to free meals and drinks. In case of major delays, passengers must be given free accommodation and free calls (up to two) with hotel transfers.

Avoid These EasyJet Delayed Flight Compensation Mistakes

As stated earlier, the airline can decline your EasyJet compensation request if you do not follow all the rules.

So, make sure to avoid these mistakes:

  • Saying yes to whatever the airline offers. This can prove to be a very costly mistake, so avoid accepting everything from travel vouchers to refunds because you might be eligible for more. Airlines avoid paying more by offering these and a lot of people make the mistake of accepting such offers as they look good to them, when in reality the airline is just robbing you. The truth is that airlines hate compensation claims because they result in not only monetary issues but also reputation-related problems. Thus, they try to avoid compensation claims by offering the bare minimum.
  • Signing compensation agreements without consulting a professional. Do not make this mistake because it could prevent you from filing a claim. Speaking with our team can provide you with peace of mind. We'll assist you in assessing whether the offer you've received is the most favorable or if there's potential for further benefits. Your best interests are always our top priority.
  • Being late and getting time barred.
  • File a compensation claim within the specified time period. This is crucial because, as previously stated, there is a three-year time limit. Any complaints filed after this period will not be considered.
  • Trying everything on their own. We understand why people want to go the DIY way, but it’s not a recommended solution.
  • The DIY approach is not the best option here because a lot is at stake. Managing all your documents can be stressful and confusing. Don't overwhelm yourself. Partner with a trustworthy firm like Click2Refund to ensure everything is handled correctly.
